As May unfolds, it’s the perfect time to focus on mental health since it’s Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental well-being is crucial for our overall wellness, affecting our thoughts, emotions, and daily functioning. Our nonprofit is here to support you on this journey by offering affordable blood tests, free screenings, and health education tailored to promote a healthy mind and body.

Understanding the connections between physical and mental health can help you make informed decisions about your well-being, and AHF affordable blood tests can help. Here are some factors that may impact your mental health:

  1. Thyroid screen ($35) – thyroid function: Thyroid dysfunction can cause symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Monitoring your thyroid levels can help your health care provider identify any potential concerns and manage them accordingly.
  2. Vitamin D screen (D2,D3) ($50) – vitamin D levels: Low levels of vitamin D have been linked to depression and other mental health disorders. Ensuring optimal vitamin D levels can contribute to better mental and physical health.
  3. Vitamin B12 screen ($35) – vitamin B12 levels: Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause neurological symptoms, including depression, anxiety, and cognitive problems. Knowing your B12 levels can help your health care provider take appropriate steps towards maintaining a healthy nervous system.
  4. Ferritin ($35) – ferritin levels: Low levels of ferritin (iron storage) can be associated with fatigue, which can impact mental health. Monitoring your iron levels can help your health care provider address potential issues and improve your well-being.

As we approach the end of May, there are only a few health fairs left before Alaska Health Fair goes on a summer break (please see schedule and make appointment at www.alaskahealthfair.org). We encourage you to attend these events and take advantage of the affordable blood testing. Health fairs will resume in August, offering additional opportunities for health screenings and education.
