Alaska Health Fair (AHF) is excited to highlight an extraordinary event that embodies the spirit of community health and inclusivity organized by one of AHF partner agencies, Special Olympics Alaska. On June 7th, 2025, Special Olympics Alaska will transform Dimond High School in Anchorage into a hub of health screenings, support, and celebration for Special Olympics athletes. Since its inception in 1996, the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes® program has been dedicated to improving athletes’ ability to train and compete while enhancing their overall well-being. This comprehensive health screening initiative offers vital services across seven disciplines, including vision care, dental health, hearing tests, physical therapy, and mental wellness support.
What Makes This Event Special?
The upcoming event offers free health screenings that go beyond basic check-ups. Athletes will receive:
- Professional physical therapy assessments for strength, balance, and flexibility
- Vital signs monitoring and bone density screenings
- Mental health support and wellness strategies
- And much more, all provided by dedicated healthcare professionals
We Need Your Help!
The event needs volunteers for two shifts: Morning Shift: 10:30 AM – 2:30 PM; and, Afternoon Shift: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM. As an AHF volunteer, you already understand the importance of accessible health services and community engagement. Special Olympics Alaska shares these values, making this opportunity a perfect fit for those looking to expand their volunteer impact. Your experience in health screenings and community service will be invaluable in supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities, making a tangible and meaningful difference in the lives of these people.
