Judith Kennedy lives in Hydaburg, Alaska, a 72 year old grandmother who likes to camp, pick berries, and spend time with her family. Her husband has a bad back, so doesn’t get out as much as he’d like to now. Traveling out of Hydaburg is especially hard now because he needs to be escorted in a wheelchair.
One day last March Judith received a call that her son, a resident of Ketchikan, had been medevacked to Anchorage; naturally, Judith wanted to be with him. Judith’s daughter had heard of Healing Hand Foundation, so she helped her mom fill out the application and submit it.
Judith’s application was for a ticket to Anchorage; her son’s heart procedure was a medical emergency and she wanted to be there next to him. Her son endured two operations, and tragically, he wasn’t able to recover from the second operation. This experience, as difficult as it was, meant a lot to Judith. She was able to be there—before and after each surgery. She appreciated the medical travel award that Healing Hand Foundation was able to provide.
Since 2002, Healing Hand Foundation has helped 1,406 patients from 18 Southeast communities; we continue to seek support from individuals, corporations and foundations, to address unfunded health care costs throughout the Southeast region.
Consider the gift that Judith received. Consider how your support would allow others to receive assistance when they most need it. Your gift would be matched by the Sealaska/Soboleff matching grant, which means it will make double the impact.
